And all a day late.
I truly meant to post yesterday, but I was busy. Between the baking, the dinner making, and the late night out with my hubby I wasn't able to sit down and post. So here is the belated blogiversary, Valentines Day, Baking with Julia, and date night version.
So yes, seven years. In dog years my blog is older than me. I figure that dog years better captures the relative age of this blog thing. It's a little harder now with children becoming a little more opinionated about what gets posted and I do try to respect their wishes. Rebecca was less than thrilled with the last picture I posted, but I did point out that I haven't released any videos of her without her approval and honestly those have a better chance of being passed around. Anyhoodle seven years is a pretty durn long stretch and as long as the grandparents are interested I'll keep it up.
Valentines day around here has become very low key. Rebecca was the only one that did the card exchange at school, Max wasn't interested and once you are out of elementary school it's over. We did however have a lovely roast chicken for dinner and Larry got me some absolutely scrumptious chocolates. The man certainly knows what I like! The best part is that none of the kids like them. I happy to share with Larry who appreciates fine chocolates.
Which brings us to Baking with Julia. The selected recipe was Chocolate Truffle Tartlets and I thought they would be fun to make for Valentines day. The recipe makes 6 tartlets which is perfect for my family. I think they were pretty good, but the crust needs a little work. I'll give a full reportage on Tuesday, the official day for Baking with Julia.
As for the other thing... Larry and I had a very late night out on the town. We didn't get home until nigh on 2:00 am. We are friends with a few members of some local bands, The Santamaria Bothers and Soundstorm, and there was a splendid double bill last night. Both play a sort funky jazz infused music and the venue has good acoustics. The highlight of the evening was when the two bands joined together. Once in a while it's fun for the two of us to go out and kick up our heels.

Hey Nineteen!
Today you get double post goodness, not only is it Memorial Day, but it is also our nineteenth wedding anniversary.
Nineteen years, four kids, and three houses. We have been very, very busy. And I wouldn't trade away any of it.
Larry stated that he looks forward to at least another 40 happy years together. To that I reply, as I did 19 years ago, I do.
Happy anniversary to my sweetheart. You make everything in my life better.

18 and 25
As of today we have been married for 18 years and as of this month we have been together for 25 years.
I found this picture of us from the late '80s. It could be as early as fall of 1985, but it is most likely from our senior year. We met the end of our sophomore year and started dating on May 4th, 1985. I can remember the date because Larry asked me out after our college's big spring party, Floralia, which is held on the first Saturday in May. Since then we have pretty much been inseparable.
Not bad for a couple of college sweethearts.

Five And Still Alive
Well I have been puddling along here now for five years.
Sharing pictures, telling odd stories and posting things that just plain amuse me.
This isn't the most exciting or best written blog, not by a long shot. But... it's my blog and it's my little corner of the interwebs. So thank you for stopping by and leaving the occasional comment.
And who knows maybe someday I'll start posting at a far more civilized hour and not at my usual "oh heck it's almost midnight" post panic. Just don't hold your breath.

17 Years and Counting
Yesterday was our seventeenth anniversary and this month marks our being together for 24 years.
Larry brought home this lovely bouquet (I love daisies and the roses smell heavenly) and Meryl graciously took all four kids overnight, all we had to do was shuttle Jake to and from a party.
We attempted to see a X-Men Origins and learned just because the web site and Fandango say it's on doesn't really mean it is going to happen. Stupid burnt out projector (never fear we saw it today and it was terrific). So instead we had a hot time at Costco.
Dinner, however made up for all the movie going snafus. We went to Mekong and discovered a gem of a restaurant. It truly is an authentic Vietnamese experience. It's been years since I've had Vietnamese food and I had forgotten how very serious they are when a dish is labeled spicy. It was at the very limit of my tolerance, but the taste, oh the taste was exquisite. We will definitely go there again.

Four Years and One Day
I've been blathering here for four years (and one day). Subjecting you to odd videos and endless pictures.
It's been a wonderful way for grandparents to keep up with the kids and has given me a little outlet.
Who knows if I'll be here four years from now, but for now I'm here.

Nothing Says Romance
Like a giant fireball.
Larry and I went out for dinner Saturday night. We are always up for trying another place so he asked around at work for a restaurant recommendation and was pointed towards Juleps.
The place was easy to find and we were even able to snag some free parking. Mind this was after an interminable wait for a simply enormous SUV limo to move out of the way of a side street I had directed Larry to go down. I would like to note that just because you have rented a large limo it does not make you cool, especially if you are very drunk. Find a parking lot to decant yourselves and do not block any side streets. I really don't want to see you, your buddies or the driver paw through a bag's contents to determine if it is just trash.
Anyway, we did make the restaurant on time and had a wonderful meal. The service was excellent as was the food. Oftentimes one dish will stand out either for good or bad, but not this night. I stared with fried green tomatoes served with house made pimento cheese. I wasn't sure about the cheese at first, but after one bite I was converted. My main course, rack of lamb, was equally good. It was plump, juicy and cooked to perfection.
When we were done the waiter brought out the dessert menu. We decided to have the Bananas Foster for two. It was done, as it should be, table side. The waiter did a wonderful job, pausing just before the flambe so that the area could clear a little. The fireball generated by the rum was impressive as was the heat. The dessert itself was luscious. The warm bananas and slightly caramelized sauce melting into the vanilla ice cream. As an added treat the ice cream had been scooped into a chocolate dipped waffle bowl. The dessert is quite a production and well worth it.
Originally we had planned to stay out later, but after such a marvelous meal we decided it would be better just to head back home. It was a lovely evening.

Sweet Sixteen
Sixteen years ago we said "I do."
It has been a sweet sixteen years and I'd do it again in a heart beat.

The Terrible Twos
Well it’s been two years since I started this thing. In dog years that would make this fourteen and in blog years... well I don’t know.
I have posted endless pictures of children, cakes and dogs. This has turned out to be a great way to keep the grandparents up to date and for me to share my experiences. I hope to keep it up my little corner on the internet.
To celebrate this second anniversary here two of my favorite sites:
Watch it Shred.
Will it blend?
Nothing like a little destruction to keep you entertained.
