I swear this is the last pirate themed picture until at least Halloween.
The theme this past week for MCP Project 52 was "The Eyes Have It" and the red boys have such expressive eyes in this picture. John has a wary eye and Dell seems to be looking towards John for support, a fairly accurate portrayal of the two.
I had not particular ideas in mind for this week's theme, I basically fell into it. I was going through the pictures I took of the dogs in honor of "Talk Like a Pirate Day" when I realized I had a good picture for MCP Project 52.
As a result I submitted early on in the week. Of course, as though to balance things out, I forgot to write up the picture on Friday. Either way this was the selected picture and I think it's a hoot.

Happy Purim!
And nothing says Purim like two dachshunds dressed as penguins!
Well sort of, but the kids are at school and I won't have time to post them in all their finery until tomorrow. This is what I have now.
Anyhoo, I think they are very cute with their little bow ties. I could have picked up some bunny costumes for them dirt cheap at Target last week, but it was just so wrong.
For crying out loud they EAT bunnies. Meryl really wanted me to buy them (ok the bunny ears were cute), but I resisted.
So break out your groggers, John and Dell have, and come celebrate Purim.

Donors Choose
Sars over at Tomato Nation is participating in the 2008 DonorsChoose.org Blogger Challenge in Support of Public Schools.
Donors Choose is a great idea, teachers write proposals for classroom materials which in turn are screened then posted and you get to pick which one to fund.
Her initial goal this year is $50,000 and her overall goal is $100, 000. If she reaches her overall goal she'll don her tomato costume and travel on to DC via train to see the sites. I think it would a great thing to have a traveling tomato in our nation's capital. Last year she donned the suit and danced at Rockefeller Plaza.

Something About a Man in Uniform
I went shopping yesterday with Nate, Maxand Rebecca in tow. The dynamic duo were birthday present shopping for their good friend Lydia and Nate was just tagging along. Lydia's party is tomorrow and I thought it would be a nice change to get the present before the big day.
As we walked into the store we got a very clear reminder that Halloween was coming up. I got the bright idea that we could also go costume shopping. The selection will only get worse as H-day draws near.
Rebecca wanted another princess dress, but I squashed that idea. She already has enough, I suggested that she could combine her Cinderella dress (which is a bit big) with her Raccoon costume and be Princess Raccoon. I thought it was a great idea, but it was greeted with a blank stare. She settled on a simply adorable winged dragon. Nate had a hard time choosing between various costumes, but in the end he seized upon a Boba Fett and is very happy.
Max was not too happy in the Halloween costume section. He doesn't like scary or gross things. In fact this aversion produced one of the funnest moments in the store. There was a particularly scary and gory death's head mask and robe in front of the costume display. Nate was intrigued by it, but was thwarted by Max. Standing next to the offending costume and in front of Nate, Max (loudly) announced that if his brother so much as touched that thing he would not go near Nate until his brother washed his hands.
Alrighty then, when Max turned away I hastily shoved the costume out of sight.
So obviously Max's costume does not fall into the scary catagory. He choose to be a solider. I thought it looked ok and the size looked fine. We then moved over to the toy section and after a lot of hemming and hawing picked out gifts suitable for a six year old girl. During the ride home everybody was very pleased with their costumes, Rebecca even managed to wiggle into hers before buckling up for the ride home. Once home the boys tore into the house and got on their costumes. Nate looked great, but Max... he was so cute. There is something about a little boy all dressed up in a uniform.

Purim
Last night we headed over to Temple for Purim. I love the whole atmosphere; for once my children can be noisy, in fact they are even encouraged. It was a small crowd this year, but a very warm one. The Rabbi was in rare form and it was one of the funniest Megillah readings I’ve ever heard.
As usual the kids all dressed up. Nate had baseball practice (which actually occurred as opposed to last year) and stuck with his baseball uniform.
Once again Rebecca was royalty. She portrayed Queen Esther and got to wear her Cinderella dress with matching shoes, scepter and crown.
Jake, on the other hand, was truly inspired this year. He decided he was going to be Darth Haman, all he needed was a tricorne hat. We headed out Saturday afternoon to pick one up at our local party supply store. I figured with the popularity of Pirates of the Caribbean I should be able to find a pirate hat. Sadly they were out of the fancy version, but they did have a cheap plastic one for children. I peeled off the skull and crossbones sticker and he was good to go. He wore the hat with his Darth Vader costume sans mask and the final result was quite good.
In this picture Queen Esther looks a bit distressed being near the combined evilness of Haman and Darth Vader.
While we were at the party store Max admired a crown in the Mardi Gras section and decided he would be the king. Of course nothing is simple with Max and he had to refuse at least one part of his costume. He happily wore his crown, dress shirt and pants, but he balked at the cape.
And as usual, halfway through the evening he changed his mind.
Of course the service wouldn’t be complete without graggers.
The dynamic duo carefully selected their weapons and proceeded to have a gragger battle.
It’s a good thing they are so cute.
